Seed Backup & Metal Storage
Steel and titanium seed-phrase backup plates, punch and stamping kits, and physical products for surviving fire, flood and time.
Bitcoin Safe
Bitcoin-Safe is free and open-source desktop software for managing bitcoin cold storage wallets, built on the Bitcoin Development Kit. It requires a hardware signer and provides a modern interface for single-signature and multisig cold storage across Windows, macOS and Linux.
Casa
Casa provides multi-key self-custody for bitcoin using keys spread across several devices and locations, so no single device failure loses access. Plans add white-glove security guidance, inheritance planning and recovery support while the customer keeps control of their own keys.
SeedSigner
A free, open-source DIY project that turns an air-gapped Raspberry Pi Zero plus a camera and small screen into a stateless Bitcoin signing device. All communication with the host wallet happens through QR codes, and no seed is stored on the hardware between uses.
BitBar Seed Phrase Backup Wallet
A Swiss-engineered hexagonal metal bar with grooves on all six sides that hold pre-engraved letter tiles, so no stamping tools are needed. Weighs 515g, works with 12 or 24-word BIP39 phrases, and ships with over 2,000 tiles. BitBar also sells polymer backup cards and special-character tile sets.
BitBox Steelwallet
Two engraved stainless steel sheets from Swiss maker Shift Crypto, holding up to 24 recovery words at 12 per sheet. An automatic puncher is included and only the first four letters of each BIP39 word need marking. Made in the EU with a two-year warranty.
BitBox Steelwallet Pro
Shift Crypto's heavy-duty reusable backup, built from thick stainless steel with a screw closure and tamper-evident sticker. Because it uses rearrangeable character tiles rather than punched marks, the stored phrase can be updated at any time.
BitPLATES Domino One
A metal plate marked by indenting single dots next to the correct letters, creating a permanent record of seed words or a passphrase with no tiles and no stamp set. A half-size Domino One 2 variant covers 12-word phrases at the same metal composition, thickness and grid depth.
Coinplate Alpha
Two thick AISI 304 stainless steel plates bolted together into a sandwich that protects a punched recovery phrase. The maker states it holds up to 24 seed words and resists temperatures to 1400°C as well as water and corrosion.
ColdTi Double Titanium Plate Set
A pair of credit-card-sized plates made from commercially pure Grade 2 titanium, sized to take any 12- or 24-word seed. ColdTi describes them as fireproof, waterproof and tamper evident, and they work with any language wordlist.
Cryptosteel Seed24 Security Kit
Cryptosteel's current-generation capsule backup, sized for a full 24-word recovery phrase. Individual stainless steel character tiles slide onto a rod inside a sealed capsule, so the backup can be re-arranged later without stamping or engraving. The UK-based maker ships worldwide and dispatches orders without external branding.
Cryptotag Zeus
A starter kit built around 6mm-thick titanium plates, crafted in the Netherlands. Instead of letters you punch the BIP39 word numbers, and the kit includes the conversion sheet and punching tools for up to 24 recovery words. Cryptotag states it ships to the United States and sells in over 100 countries.
Cypherock X1
A hardware wallet that replaces a single seed phrase with a tamper-proof device plus four NFC cards, splitting the key so no single item can be lost or stolen to compromise the wallet. Cypherock also builds non-custodial inheritance features on top of this design.
CypherSafe CypherWheel
A stainless steel disc-and-bolt backup built by Numberall Stamp & Tool Company in Maine. Individual stamped tags are threaded onto a central bolt so the phrase stays ordered and can be updated. CypherSafe also sells the hand stamps, rotary stamps and punches to mark it.
Glacier Protocol
Glacier is a free, open-source, step-by-step protocol for storing bitcoin offline in a highly secure way using multiple keys. It is self-managed by design, so no third-party service or fee is involved, and it documents several approaches to keeping keys offline.
Inheriti
Inheriti is a digital inheritance and secret-data protection service that splits sensitive information such as seed phrases into distributed shares. Plans cover personal digital inheritance, data backups, access management and business continuity without the provider holding a usable copy of the secret.
Keystone Tablet
A 304-grade stainless steel tile-based backup from the Keystone hardware wallet company. Metal letter tiles slot into a screwed-shut housing and support 12, 18 and 24-word phrases without any stamping.
Keystone Tablet Plus
The upgraded Keystone metal backup with double-sided storage and individual slots for each letter tile, so tiles stay in place even if the housing deforms under heat. Made entirely of 304-grade stainless steel and shipped with spare screws, tamper stickers and a screwdriver.
NGRAVE GRAPHENE
A two-plate 316 stainless steel backup where you punch characters through a perforated upper plate into the lower one, so neither plate alone reveals the phrase. NGRAVE states it resists fire to 1375°C plus water, corrosion and shocks, and can reissue a lost upper plate via a recovery code.
NGRAVE ZERO
A high-security air-gapped hardware wallet with a touchscreen, biometric sensor and no wireless or wired data connection; transactions are passed by QR code. It is sold alongside NGRAVE's GRAPHENE metal backup and LIQUID mobile app.
OneKey KeyTag
A pair of aerospace-grade TC4 titanium alloy tags on which you punch BIP39 word numbers rather than letters. Each pack stores 24 recovery words plus two extra passphrase slots and includes an automatic center punch and guide. OneKey rates the alloy to a 1668°C melting point.
Prokey Optimum
A compact offline hardware wallet from Prokey that keeps the private key on the device and signs transactions without exposing the seed. Prokey lists support for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Tether and thousands of other assets, and also sells a ColdSteel metal backup.
Ryder One
A hardware wallet designed around simplicity, sold directly by Ryder with an optional recovery tag, wireless charger and travel pouch. It is pitched at people who want self-custody without managing a written seed phrase.
Satochip Seedkeeper
A smartcard-format backup device rather than a metal plate: an EAL6-certified secure element stores up to fifty secrets such as seed phrases and passwords behind a PIN. Companion desktop and mobile apps handle import and export on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
SeedHammer II
A desktop engraving machine that mills seed phrases into metal plates, aimed at individuals and businesses running multisig self-custody. Smaller and lighter than the original, with an integrated controller. SeedHammer also sells replacement plate 5-packs and an electronics repair kit.
Seedor Safe
A German-made modular capsule where each recovery word is stamped onto its own 316L stainless steel disk and stacked inside a 67 x 25mm housing. Ships with 28 disks and four tamper-proof stickers, and the maker rates it to 1450°C. Seedor also sells the letter punch sets and multisig 2-of-3 and 3-of-5 bundles.
SEEDPLATE 24 Words (Coinkite)
A single 2mm steel plate pre-etched with the BIP39 grid, holding 12 words per side for a full 24-word phrase. You mark your words by punching a dimple next to the correct letters, so there are no loose tiles and no stamp set to buy. Cut and etched in Canada and sold through the Coinkite store.
SEEDPLATE Tiny 12 (Coinkite)
A compact version of the SEEDPLATE for 12-word recovery phrases, with six words per side on a plate roughly 48 x 54 x 2mm. Small enough to conceal easily while using the same punch-the-grid marking method.
Trezor Keep Metal
Trezor's own metal backup, made from AISI 304 aerospace-grade stainless steel with a black surface treatment. You punch the first four letters of each word; the kit includes a pre-marking pen, punching tool and tamper-evident seals. Sold in single-share and Shamir multi-share versions.
Vault12
Vault12 is a mobile app for backing up and inheriting crypto wallet seed phrases using a network of trusted Guardians rather than a custodian. The company states plainly that it is not a custodian and never holds, transfers or accesses user funds.
Yeti Cold
Yeti is an open-source script and set of instructions that installs Bitcoin Core and then walks the user through building a multi-key cold storage setup. It deliberately prioritises safety over convenience and does not rely on any third-party service.
DCENT X
DCENT's newer flagship hardware wallet, sold through the company's own store and also offered bundled with its R3covery Card recovery kit. Transactions are approved with a fingerprint on the device.
CypherSafe CypherGrid
CypherSafe's lower-cost steel plate with a pre-marked grid, designed to be marked with a center punch rather than a full stamp set. Made by the same Maine stamping company behind the CypherWheel.
Billfodl Multishard
Billfodl's multi-unit kit for splitting a recovery phrase across several steel devices, aimed at Shamir-style or multi-location backup schemes. Uses the same stainless steel tile system as the standard Billfodl.
Black Seed Ink Stainless Steel Seed Phrase Backup Plate
A stainless steel plate you etch yourself to record a BIP39 recovery phrase, sold with an etching tool. Black Seed Ink also offers separate plates for passphrases, master passwords and exchange logins, plus tamper-seal security kits.
Blockstream Metal — Capsule
Blockstream's capsule-style metal seed backup, sold through its own store alongside the Jade hardware wallet. Uses stainless steel character tiles sealed inside a capsule so a recovery phrase survives fire and water.
Blockstream Metal — SeedQR
A metal plate designed to hold a punched SeedQR code rather than written words, so a recovery phrase can be restored by scanning it with a compatible signing device. Sold directly by Blockstream, which also offers a printable SeedQR template pack.
